Sanctioning the Russian Federation.

Oil is only a small part of sanctions

What do the sanctions on Russia do?

Sanctions include targeted restrictive measures (individual sanctions), economic sanctions, and visa measures. The aim of the economic sanctions is to impose severe consequences on Russia for its actions and to effectively thwart the Russian ability to continue the aggression.

What are the 4 types of sanctions?

Types

Reasons for sanctioning.

Economic sanctions.

Diplomatic sanctions.

Military sanctions.

Sports sanctions.

Sanctions on the environment.

Sanctions on individuals

Let me be clear. The oil sanctioning of Russia has had little effect on the Russian economy. Other sanctions in business and banking have damaged the Russian economy. International retailing, commerce and have been blunted. Russia survives without McDonald’s, GAP, and Target. Their diet is better off without fast food.

The Global Energy Market is distributed worldwide. Networks of pipelines, and sea transport distribute natural gas to the far corners of the world. Europe and Germany in particular were temporarily inconvenienced by the Russian refusal to sell LNG to Germany. A mild winter in Europe and some rationing lessened the shortage of Russian crude and gas. The large Russian NG pipeline under the Black Sea was destroyed by an explosion by “unknown assailants”.

Russian is still selling oil and LNG to India, and India is reselling it to Europe and the United States using large LNG cargo ships. LNG and oil are still available, however, the prices have skyrocketed. Russia has had little impact from the loss of LNG and oil revenues.

Sanctions rarely accomplish their intent.
